Potted Spring Benchgrafted Vines
We supply biodegradable peat pot grown spring benchgrafted vines to vineyards from Central
Otago, Waitaki, Marlborough, Hawkes Bay, and Auckland. Vineyards have reported
excellent establishment and strike rates with vines reaching the fruiting wire during
their first season of growth.
Vines are benchgrafted from mid August through September and then grown for 2 to 3 months in
biodegradable peat pots before planting.
The vines can be transplanted late November through December with vines establishing very quickly, as they are
transplanted while activley growing. There is no set back of growth after transplanting vines grown in
biodegradeable peat pots. The entire peat pot is planted into the ground at transplanting with no root disturbance
compared to
vines transplanted from plastic pots.
We supply a worksheet to growers as a guide on handling and transplanting peat potted green top vines. This helps growers
to achieve the optimum strike rate post tranaplanting.
Ordering
Vines can be forward orderd with a 30% deposit before the end of June and the vines are ready for planting in late
November/ December.
For spring grafted vines there is a 5 to 6 month wait after you order with a forward deposit. With dormant vines
there is a 15 month wait after you order with a forward deposit.
In Europe 15% of vines are now planted as spring grafted vines grown in
biodegradable peat pots during spring and transplanted into the vineyard early summer.
